Obituary.
Andrew Johnson died Tuesday morning, Jan. 9, 1900, having suffered a second stroke of paralysis, a little after 11 o’clock on Monday evening. The first stroke occured{sic} about 1-1/2 years ago, but the effects were gradually wearing off, although improvement was slow. Mr. Johnson was at the time of his death a little over 62 years old. He was born in Yang, Valders, Norway, Oct. 23, 1837, and came to America in 1866. After a few years spent in Wisconsin he came to Iowa and in 1873 moved to Cresco. where he has since resided. Here he has been in business for about 25 years, being associated with his brother John, under the firm name of Johnson Bros.
June 23, 1871, he was married to Miss Sarah Losen, who with two daughters, Bessie and Matilda, and a son, John Alfred, survive to mourn the death of a most devoted husband and father.
There are still living one brother and three sisters here in America, and a brother and sister in Norway. The death of Andrew Johnson is a loss that will be felt keenly in business circles. But most of all he will be missed in the church of which he has been so faithful a member. He has been a member from the first organization and lived long enough to see the hope realized that the congregation should have a place of worship which they might call their own.
Funeral services were conducted at the new Norwegian Lutheran church by Rev. O. Otterson. Interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery. COM.
