Funeral services for Agnes Vachta were held on Friday, February 15 at Holy Trinity Church in Protivin with Rev. John Moser officiating. Interment was in Holy Trinity Church Cemetery in Protivin. Pallbearers were: Jeff Jacoby, Gary Kolbet, Tyler Vachta, Troy Porter, Roger Palmersheim, Jr., and Robby Gardner. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Agnes, 92, died Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at the Regional Health Services of Howard County Hospital in Cresco.
Agnes Regina Vachta was born May 21, 1909 near Calmar, the daughter of John and Anna (Kuhn) Schneberger. She received her education in the rural schools and helped do the farm chores.
On November 16, 1926 she married George William Vachta at Protivin. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Protivin Post of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed baking and embroidery.
She is survived by her children: George of Cresco, Millie Kolbet of Elma, Mary Ann Jacoby of Des Plaines, IL, and Edward of Wellman; nine grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren; three step greatgrandchildren; and three great-greatgrandchildren.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband George on March 8, 1971; one grandson; one step grandson; one great-greatgrandson; three brothers: Alfonse, Bill, and Matt; and two sisters: Margaret Kohler and Marie Manderfield.
