Services held for Lloyd Peter
Funeral services for Lloyd Peter were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 21 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lime Springs with Rev. Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Lloyd, 68, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. He had been suffering from congestive heart failure since 1988 and most recently had spent since June 12 in the U of I Hospital.
Lloyd Eugene Peter was born June 27, 1934 in Cresco, the son of Edward and Josephine (Wood) Peter of Lime Springs. Lloyd was baptized in the Lutheran Church and confirmed his faith in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. He attended elementary school in Lime Springs, Clarksville, and Cresco and graduated from Lime Springs High School in 1952. He attended one year at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.
On June 6, 1954 he married Marian Sanborn.
Prior to and following his service in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1959, Lloyd worked with his father in the Lime Springs Texaco Station until he began driving truck for his uncle Ernest Peter as a tankwagon agent for Northern Iowa Oil Company. In 1977 he joined Stapelkamp Oil Company where he continued until his early retirement in 1998 due to his heart disability.
He was a council member and Sunday School teacher in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, a councilman and mayor of Lime Springs, and 22 years as a borad{sic} member of the Lime Springs Public Library. Recently he became a member of the Lime Springs American Legion Post # 545. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting or fishing. He loved playing cards, board games, and puzzles. His love of sports carried through in later years through his attendance at high school ballgames, Twins games, and Hawkeye football games.
He is survived by his wife Marian; five children: Becky Pahl of Lime Springs, Beth Kulow of Fort Wayne, IN, Margie Hunt of Colorado Springs, CO, Win of Nora Springs, and Barb Reicks of rural Cresco; 12 grandchildren; and one sister: Marian Lee of Beavercreek, OR.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother: Edward.
