ELMA -- Harlin E. Pietan, 73, Elma, died of natural causes on Monday, Nov. 4, 2002 at Colonial Manor Home, Elma.
Funeral Services were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6 at St. Paul's Maple Leaf Lutheran Church, rural Elma with Reverend Dan Christensen presiding. Lois Friedrich was the organist and accompanied those in atten-dance singing "I'm But A Stranger Here", "Just As I Am", "Children Of The Heavenly Father" and "How Great Thou Art".
Interment was in Howard Cemetery with Ralph Beck, Mike Zeimetz, Jeff Lansing, Tom Lansing, Greg Wellik, Bill Zwanziger, Tom Ellinghuysin and Rick Baethke serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were Pat Shekleton and Ed Beecher.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, Elma where there was a 7:45 p.m. Prayer Service. Further visitation was held an hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Harlin was born January 26, 1929 in New Hampton, the son of Edwin and Alma (Rabe) Pietan. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a graduate of New Hampton High School. He married Isabel Lauck on Oct. 18, 1950 at St. Paul’s Maple Leaf Lutheran Church near Elma. Following their marriage, the couple farmed northeast of Elma on the farm where Isabel was born. They moved to Elma in 1991. Harlin was a member of St. Paul's Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, discussing farm issues and riding horses.
Survivors include his mother, Alma Pietan, New Hampton; three sons, Robert (Mary), Decorah, Mark and Glen (Lisa), both of Elma; ten grandchildren and one sister, Marilyn (Vic) Lansing, Stewartville, MN.
Preceding him in death was his father; his wife, Isabel and a daughter-in-law, Chris Pietan.
