Services held for Edward Markovetz
Funeral services for Edward Markovetz were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29 at the Conway Funeral Home with interment in Calvary Cemetery, both in Cresco. Pallbearers were: Carl Thompson, Jerry Riehle, Ron Riehle, John Wilson, Darrell Riehle, and Lyle Barth.
Edward, 87, died Saturday, January 26, 2002 at the Cresco Care Center, where he had made his home since July of 1994
Edward Markovetz was born July 10, 1914 in Howard County, near Protivin, the son of James and Maude (Kubik) Markovetz. He attended the rural school near his home, going through the eighth grade. He was involved in farming, originally with his family and then with other farmers in the area. He also worked at Mason City Brick and Tile.
On July 27, 1948 he married Lillian Korsa Bohach in Chicago. They returned to Cresco to make their home. At this time, Ed owned and operated a tavern for 16 years, and then he worked for United Building Center and did various odd jobs for many farmers and town people.
Ed liked going to dances.
He is survived by two daughters: Genny Riehle of Cresco and Diane Thompson of Decorah; six grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 17 step great-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren; and one sister: Emma Frankhauser of Cresco.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife Lillian on March 9, 2000; his parents; one step grandchild; five brothers: Frank, James, and William Markovetz, Anton and Clarence Marhoul; and one sister: Mary Andera.
