Funeral services for Vilda Mandelko of Preston, MN will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 17 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church , in Granger, MN with Rev. Keith Parker officiating. Interment will be in St. Matthew Cemetery in Granger. Thauwald Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Vilda, 96, died Saturday, January 12, 2002 at the Preston Good Samaritan Care Center.
Vilda Everal Mandelko was born May 8, 1905 in Howard County, the daughter of William and Ada (Fox) Krueger. She was baptized in the Methodist Church in Florenceville. She attended country school and graduated from Cresco High School. She received her teaching degree in Cedar Falls and taught at Oakley School in Howard County.
In 1926 she married Carl Mandelko at her parents home in Howard County. They farmed near Granger and in 1940 moved to a farm near Greenleafton, MN.
Vilda was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Granger and was also a member of the Bristol Homemakers Club.
She enjoyed reading, needlework, gardening, and fishing.
She is survived by one daughter: Delone Langum of Chandler, AZ; two sons: Delbert and Allan, both of Preston; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; five great-greatgrandchildren; two sisters: Lenora Lingbeck and Violette Rinehart, both of Cresco; and one brother: Merlyn of Waterloo.
Vilda was preceded in death by her husband Carl in October 2000; one son: Charles; and one great-grandson.
