PROTIVIN -- Leona Havel, 100, Protivin, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Elma.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Protivin with Rev. John A. Moser presiding. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Servers were Kyle and Mark Panos. Gifts were carried by the great-grandchildren. Sue Panos was the reader. Music was provided by Marlene Pecinovsky accompanying the Holy Trinity Choir and Miriam Humpal and Laura Lukes singing a duet.
Burial was in the church cemetery with Stephen, Sheldon, Shawn and Gerald Praska and Alan, Bryan and Kevin Havel as casket bearers.
Leona Evelyn Havel was born in Howard County on Feb. 11,1902, the daughter of Joseph J. and Caroline (Svestka) Moravetz. She was baptized and confirmed in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she was a life long member.
She attended rural New Oregon #6 school and helped do housework at various neighboring homes. On Oct. 2, 1923, she was united in marriage to Lewis J. Havel at Holy Trinity Church, Protivin. They made their home on the farm near Schley, until they retired and moved into town in 1963. Leona enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens, crocheting, making doilies and other handiwork. She also did sewing for other people. She was a life long member of the Holy Trinity Rosary Society..
Survivors include her children, Celesta (Richard) Praska, Cresco and Donald Havel, Protivin; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; one step great great-grandchild; one brother, Roman Moravetz, Cresco and one sister, Otilda Larkin, New Hampton.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lewis, in 1964; three brothers, Leonard, Reuben and Clarence and one sister, Clara M. Voves.
