Ruth Gansen, 101
Ruth G. Gansen, age 101, of Riceville, Iowa passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn. A memorial gathering will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riceville on Saturday, May 25, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. A private burial was held at Riverside Cemetery in Riceville.
Ruth G. Gansen was born on March 3, 1901 in rural Elma to William and Ida Cochran Bunston. She attended local schools and on October 29, 1928 was united in marriage to Mathias A. Gansen in Elma, Iowa. Ruth spent her entire life in Howard and Mitchell counties farming with her husband “Matt”. They were also owners of a restaurant.
Survivors include two nieces, June Newhouse of Riceville, and Patricia Trask of Waterloo, Iowa. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, William Gansen of Lime Springs, five sister- in-laws, Mrs. Gert Womack of Riceville, Mrs. Mary Gansen and Mrs. Lucille Gansen, both of Elma, Mrs. Thelma Gansen of Marble Rock, Iowa and Mrs. Ann Leibel of California.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband “Matt” in 1997; one brother, Charles Bunston (formerly of Waterloo); and one sister, Emily Fogle (formerly of Riceville).
