DES MOINES - Thomas S. Thompson, 87, Des Moines, a native of Elma, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001 of natural causes.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Nov. 27 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Des Moines with the Rev. Msgr. Frank Bognanno presiding.
Interment was in Sunset Memorial Garden, Des Moines with Michael Heying, Tom Gates, Charles Defino, T.J. Thompson, Charles Enright, Fred Tucker, Johnny Arensberg and Adam Thompson serving as pallbearers. Military grave rites were held.
Thomas Sylvester Thompson was born Jan. 3,1914, the son of Severt and Mayme (Marik) Thompson in Afton Township, Howard County near Elma. He received his education in parochial schools in Elma and Lourdes. He joined the Navy in 1940 and served his country in World War II until 1945. On April 4, 1945, he married Midge Robbins in Des Moines. He was a janitorial engineer for the Des Moines School System until his retirement.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas A., Jeffrey and Benjamin, all of Des Moines; three daughters, Karla Tucker and Laura Stanley, both of Des Moines and Tomalin Throener, West Point, NE; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clara Enright, and Mary (Jerome) Heying, both of Elma; an aunt, Adele Marik, New Hampton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his wife, in 1987; his parents; one sister, Alice and one brother, Leo Thompson.
Hamilton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
