Shirley Schlangen services held
Funeral services for Shirley Schlangen of Lime Springs were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 23 St. Stephen’s Church in Chester with Rev. Ray Atwood officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs.
Pallbearers were: Dennis Stecher, Bryce Heathman, Dale Schwade, Steve Reams, Mike Reams, Jason Schlangen, and Jeff Schlangen.
Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Shirley, 76, died Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI.
Shirley Ann Schlangen was born June 11, 1925 on a farm near Greene, the daughter of John and Mary (Marzen) Meek. She attended the rural school and graduated from Greene High School on May 17, 1943.
On November 25, 1947 she mairried Harold Dean Schlangen in St. Mary’s Church at Greene. They farmed near Allison until 1956 when they moved to a farm near Lime Springs where they farmed until Harold’s death on March 6, 1997.
She belonged to St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Chester where she remained active in the ladies circles.
Shirley liked to garden and raise flowers.
She is survived by two sons: Dean of Cresco and Paul of Lime Springs; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers: Donald of Charles Citv and Wayne of Greene; and three sisters: Virginia Reams of Charles City, Bonnie Lynch of Greene, and Faith Poerter of Bellevue, NE.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers: John and Richard in infancy; and two sisters: Mary Jean Ramke and ruth{sic} Heitland.
