Wilfred Schatz services held
Funeral services for Wilfred Schatz were held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2 at St. Joseph’s Worship Center in Cresco with interment in Calvary Cemetery. Rev. David Schatz, nephew of Wilfred officiated. Pallbearers were his grandchildren. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Wilfred, 79, died Saturday, September 29, 2001 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.
Wilfred Alphons Schatz was born February 8, 1922 in Adrian, MN, the son of Albert and Waiburga (Tennesen) Schatz. He attended school in Cresco, since the family had moved to Cresco when he was a child. At age nine, he moved unto his present farm.
On November 16, 1942 he entered the service of his country and served until December of 1945. He returned to Cresco.
On June 24, 1947 he married Dolores Zubrod at the Immaculate Conception Churchin North Washington. They began farming in Howard County, where they remained until 1991 when Wilfred retired from farming. They continued living in the farm until Dolores was no longer able to care for him and Wilfred moved into the Evans Home.
Wilfred was a member of Notre Dame Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards, satellite TV, anything with electronics, and most of all he enjoyed farming, even when it was just checking on the farm.
He is survived by his wife Delores; eight children: Norma Jean Coleman of Carrollton, TX, Josette Brents of Lisbon Falls, ME, Mary Brigham of Virginia Beach, VA, Thomas, Janet Mahr, and Robert, all of Lime Springs; Donald of Cresco, and Margaret Ward of Mesquite, TX; 14 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; one greatgrandchild; eight step greatgrandchildren; one sister: Leoba Dotzler of Tucson, AZ; and three brothers: Raphael of Hopkins, MN, Joseph of Rockford, IL, and Adrian of Cresco.
Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter; and one grandson.
