Transcribed by Joy MooreELMA- Ardell J. Ries, 76, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001 at her home of cancer.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Elma with Reverend Roger R. Rethamel officiating. Mildred Kobliska will be the organist and will accompany, the Immaculate Conception Church choir singing "How Great Thou Art, "Only A Shadow", "You Are Mine", "On This Day Oh Beautiful Mother" and "City of God". Lector will be Diane Carney. Gift bearers will be McKenna Pratt, Michelle Reyes, Angela Weber and Mark Weber. Mass servers will be Eric Kobliska and Patrick Ries.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Elma with Ryan Ries, Darch Ries, Steven Ries, JoAnna Ries, Jeffery Ries, Daniel Ries, Adam Weber and Ben Weber serving as casket bearers.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18 at Conway Funeral Home, Elma, where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service.
Ardell Johanna (Brus) Ries was born at her parent's farm home near Alta Vista in Chickasaw County on Jan. 1, 1925, the daughter of Ralph and Martha (Brost) Brus. She attended school at St. William's School, Alta Vista and had housekeeping jobs until she met and married Raymond M. Ries on May 1,1945 at St. Bernard Church, Alta Vista. They farmed near North Washington until 1953, when they moved east of Elma where they farmed until 1981. After retiring, they moved into Elma. Ardell was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, ACCW, the Church Mission Sewing Group, Right To Life, Colonial Manor Auxiliary and Elma Senior Citizens. Ardell enjoyed her family, sewing, quilting, cooking, gardening, farming and visiting shut-ins.
Survivors include three sons, LeRoy (Mary-Margaret), Mason City; Lyle (Lynn), Alta Vista and Dale, Beaverton, OR; two daughters, Sister Phyllis Ann, RSM, Little Falls, MN and Rosalie (Don) Weber, rural Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Quentin Brus, Alta Vista and Dr. Roger Brus, Libby, MT.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Raymond, in 1998; her parents and a daughter, Shirley.
