Eileen Marie Mantz, 75
Eileen Marie Mantz, 75, of Northwood, died Saturday, November 10, 2001, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 17, 2001, at the First Lutheran Church, with Reverend Paul Holmer and Reverend Allan Stoa officiating. Burial will be in the Howard Cemetery, Elma, Iowa. Conner Colonial Chapel of Northwood is in charge of the arrangements.
Eileen Marie Mantz was born on June 29, 1926, in Elma, Iowa, the daughter of William and Lillie (Weers) Mantz.
She was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Elma. Eileen attended and received her education in the Elma School system, graduating from Elma High School. She also attended Luther College where she received her teaching degree in math and physical education. Eileen began her teaching career, which spanned 39 years. She taught in Ossian, Armstrong and Northwood. Later in her teaching career she took advanced studies at Colorado State University and Carlton College. She then taught computer science as well as math.
Her interests included traveling, fishing, bridge and the field of computers. Eileen was a fountain of information and was blessed with a very keen memory. She was relied upon to answer many a question. Eileen loved children and her church, and was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood and was faithful in her attendance until her health made that impossible.
Left to cherish her memory is her three cousins, Marlene Dillon of Cresco, Iowa, Lois Dinger of Riceville, Iowa, and May zee Wright of Osage. Eileen is also survived by her very special and long time friend, Alice Whitcome of Northwood. Eileen became a close friend of the Whitcome family, and god mother of Julie Whitcome, Rees and Molly Dillon.
Her parents preceded her in death.
