Funeral services for Travis Lienhard of Cresco were held on Monday, February 26 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco. Rev. Bruce Hobert officiated. Interment will be in New Oregon Cemetery following the return of the cremains from the U of Iowa, where Travis donated his body. Pallbearers were: Lynn Wemark, Mark Serfling, Denis Wemark, Harold Hovey, Jeff Wemark, Lynus Houdek, Gerry Caffrey, and Leroy Cutsforth. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Travis, 73, died Friday, February 23, 2001 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Travis Louis Lienhard was bom November 30, 1927 in Cresco, the son of Walter and Ida (Schorr) Lienhard. He attended grade school and high school in Cresco. After graduation, he served in the US Army.
On September 15, 1948 he married Mildred Hovey at Saetersdal Lutheran Church in Lime Springs. They resided in Cresco. He was employed as a meat cutter/butcher, sold insurance and worked on the highline construction for many years. After semi-retiring he worked as a bartender, drove truck delivering fertilizer, was a farm hand, hauled mail and many miscellaneous jobs.
Travis was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and various outdoor sportsman organizations: Decorah Fox and Coon, Upper Iowa Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Cresco Wildlife, White Tail Unlimited, and National Wild Turkey Federation. He taught the Hunter Safety Course for over 20 years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, planting and harvesting his garden, canning and wine making.
Survivors include his wife Dolly; three sons: Loel, Lindsey, and Louie, all of Cresco; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his brothers and sisters: Helen Bateman, Gary Lienhard, and Loren Lienhard all of Cresco, Madonna Davis of Bloomington, MN, Don Lienhard of Waterloo, and Neil Lienhard of South Gate, CA.
Travis was preceded in death by one daughter: Lillian; one son: Larry; his parents, and one brother: Robert.
