NEW HAMPTON - Dorothy E. Kovarik, 88, New Hampton died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, in New Hampton.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m.Monday, Sept. 10 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schipitt and Rev. John Moser celebrating the mass. Ann Bennett was organist, accompanying the St. Mary's Choir and the Holy Trinity Choir of Protiyin. The pall was placed on the casket by her four children. Grandson, Kurt Kovarik was lector.
Interment was in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Protivin, with grandchildren; Karl Kovarik, Keith Kovarik, Kris Kovarik, Kurt Kovarik, Jeremy Kovarik, Jeanine Wurzer, Jessica Cox and Joe Kovarik as pallbearers.
Visitation was 3-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9 at Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton, with a 4 p.m. Rosary, a 7 p.m. Parish Scripture service and a 7:30 p.m. Video Memorial Tribute.
Dorothy was born on Nov. 20, 1912 in rural Chickasaw County near Little Turkey, the daughter of John J. and Katherine (Panos) Pechota. She attended Utica #7 Country School near Little Turkey. On Sept. 24, 1935 she married Ben T. Kovarik at Assumption Church. Initially the couple farmed north of Jackson Junction for four years and then moved to their home north of Little Turkey where they farmed until their retirement in 1985. While living on the farm, Dorothy enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and spending time with Ben and visiting neighbors and relatives. After retiring in 1985 Ben and Dorothy moved to New Hampton. Ben died on May 4, 1993. In February 1999, Dorothy became a resident of the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was a former member of Assumption Parish, Little Turkey, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Protivin and was currently a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Rosary Society in New Hampton.
Survivors include two sons: Gene Kovarik (Rita) and Jim Kovarik (Jennie), Protivin; two daughters; Janet Ellickson (Robert) of Decorah and Joanie Claude (Frank) of Plymouth, MN; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband: Ben and one brother; Gene Pechota.
