Sister Mary Clarice Keefe, RSM, 86. died Friday, July 13, 200I, in Queen of Angels Health Center at Sacred Heart Convent after a lengthy illness. Services: 10:20 a.in. Monday, Sacred Heart Convent Chapel, by the Rev. David Ambrosy. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Convent Chapel, where a wake service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.

Born in Elma on Oct. 22, 1914, she was the daughter of Richard and Elsie Richardson Keefe. She entered the Cedar Rapids Sisters of Mercy on July 17, 1932, and made her final profession of vows on June 24, 1938.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Gertrude McGourly, Leila Sweitzer and Sister Mary Sebastian Keefe. RSM; and two brothers, Edward and John.
Besides the Sisters of Mercy, she is survived by nieces and nephews.
Sister taught in elementary schools in Decorah, Cedar Rapids and Fairfax for several years, but she spent nearly 50 years in the field of health care. From 1942 to 1961, she worked in pediatrics at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. She spent three years at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein and then returned to Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, to again work on the pediatrics floor as head nurse and then as a staff nurse from 1964 to 1984. From 1984 to 1997, she did follow-up calls for Mercy Trauma Center. She retired to Sacred Heart Convent in 1997.
