Services for Katherine Jones, 92
Funeral services were held for retired teacher and longtime Lime Springs resident Katherine A. Jones on Monday, October 29, 2001 at the Lime Springs United Methodist Church, Reverend Robert Connor officiating.
The organist was Dr.Donna Ihns. William Davis sang the Lord’s Prayer, Precious Lord and Take My Hand and the congregation joined in singing God Bless America.
Kay passed away at the Marriott Forum at the Crossing, Indianapolis, Indiana on Thursday, October 25, 2001. She had been living in the Indianapolis area for the past 10 years to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law.
Katherine Ann Roberts Jones was born in Lime Springs Iowa to James W. and Catherine A. Roberts on October 22, 1909. She was the youngest of their seven children.
She graduated from Lime Springs High School in 1925 at the tender age of 15 and entered Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa that fall. She began her teaching career in Smithland, Iowa, teaching high school home economics to girls about her age! She then went to Danbury, Iowa to teach eight additional years before marrying local dentist John R. Jones and returning to Lime Springs. She later taught in the Howard/Winneshiek District in both Chester and Cresco.
Kay married Dr. John R. “Doc” Jones on June 30, 1935 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union was born one daughter, Kay Joan Daly of Carmel, Indiana. Kay lived most of her 92 years in Lime Springs, except from 1942-1945, when her husband, Dr. John R. Jones, served on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay with the United States Navy Dental Corps and her later years in Indiana.
Her son-in-law, David G. Daly, was the apple of her eye and always had a special relationship. Her three grandchildren were a source of delight to Kay and she reveled in their childhoods, weddings and their children.
Kay was an 80-year member of the Lime Springs United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Lime Springs American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her daughter, Kay (David) Daly; three grandchildren Kim (Ron) Hutcheson and children Ryan and Matthew of Hudson, Ohio, Pam (Dr. Pat) De Valeria and children Nicholas, Jacqueline and Michelle of Scottsdale, Ariz. and John (Laura) Daly and children David and Jared of New Albany, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her six siblings; Archie, Dewey, Mabelle, Ruby, Pearl and Sydna.
