She attended the rural school and the Assumption Grade School and returned home to help her parents, as did most girls her age. She was a waitress in a restaurant and was a housekeeper and cook for a family in Cresco.
On November 14, 1950 she married George Hauber at the Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco. Following their marriage, she helped on the farm in Vernon Springs, then moved on a farm near Ridgeway for about five years and finally moved to their home farm in Winneshiek County, where they lived until they retired and moved into Cresco in 1996.
Emma was a member of Notre Dame Parish, the Altar and Rosary Society, the Winneshiek County Porkettes, and the Farm Bureau Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and listening to polka mu-sic.
She is survived by her husband, George; three daughters: Barbara Hauber of Kasson, MN, Christine Sheldon of Sidney, and Rose Ann Hauber of Lafayette, CO; six grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
Emma was preceded in death by one daughter: Diane Mary; her parents; and three brothers: Lawrence, Frank and Anthony.
