Services held for Grayce Gunhus
Funeral services for Grayce Gunhus were held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 1 at the First Lutheran Church with interment in the Oak Lawn Cemetery both in Cresco. Rev. Gary K. Lee and Intern Anna Tews officiated. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Debra Adrian, Lisa Busse, Michael Adrian, Nathan Bleadom, Ashton Hatting, Rhonda Bleadom, Lance Souhrada, Jessica Perry, Matthew Adrian, Alex Bleadom, Liliann Hatting, Kimberly Hatting, Kelly Liddle, Molly Adrian, Kaylynn Hatting, and Xaiver Souhrada. Pallbearers were: Larry Gunhus, Pat Hatting, Eugene Gunhus, Dave Hellen, Ed Adrian, and Charles Miller. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Grayce died Saturday, September 28, 2001 at the Cresco Care Center.
Grayce Evelyn Gunhus was born June 26, 1909 in Lincoln Township, Winneshiek County, the daughter of Carl and Louise(Lundby) Magnus. She was baptized and confirmed in the Madison Lutheran Church. Grayce attended rural schools and graduated from Ridgeway High School.
On June 10, 1931 she married Melvin Gunhus. They farmed until 1955 and due to Melvin’s failing health they moved to Cresco and resided there since. Grayce worked for the Cresco Dry Cleaners for 22 years. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and WELCA.
She entered the Cresco Care Center in August of 1998, when her health began to fail. While a resident there she especially enjoyed bingo, paddle wheel, services of worship and the other activities.
She is survived by four daughers: Luann Smith of Decorah, Carol Jean Busse of Grinnell, Linda Souhrada of Cresco, and Sherry Koster of Chanhassen, MN; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Grayce was preceded in death by her husband Melvin on January 25, 1970, her parents, one brother: Clair Magnus; and two sisters: Alice Hellen and Clela Christianson.
