Funeral services for Dorothy Gunhus of Cresco were held on Saturday, January 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. Rev. Bruce Hobert officiated. Spring interment will be in New Oregon Cemetery in Cresco. Honorary pallbearers were: Steven Gunhus, Shawn Gunhus, Kris Svestka, Kirk Svestka, Kim Gunhus, Brian Scholbrock, and Shane Gunhus. Pallbearers were: Mark Gunhus, Stacy Scholbrock, Bryce Gunhus, Scott Truax, Kent Svestka, and Todd Truax. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Dorothy, 88, died Thursday, January 25, 2001 at the Regional Health Services of Howard County.
Dorothy Gunhus was born December 27, 1912 in Howard County, the daughter of Fred and Olive (Crisp) Duneman. She was baptized and confirmed as an adult on July 7, 1929 by Rev. F. Engelhart.
On February 18, 1933 she married Spencer Erling Gunhus at the parsonage of Immanuel Lutheran. She was a housewife and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she loved attending Ladies Aid, working on church projects, and keeping the church library in good order.
Survivors include three sons: Randall of Cresco, Maynard of Waterloo, and Eugene of Cresco; three daughters: Donna Svestka of Cresco, Sandra Truax of Rochester, MN, and Judy Aberg of Cresco; 21 grandchildren; 35 greatgrandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; three brothers: Virgil of Cresco, Lester of Clinton, and Jerry of New Hampton; and two sisters: Sylvia Price of LaGrand, OR and Eunice Kaupel of Grants Pass, OR.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Spencer; one daughter: Sharon Eckerman; one great-granddaughter; her parents; two brothers: Lyle and Donald; and four sisters: Opal, Alta, Darlene and Geneva, who died in infancy.
