Walter Gager, 84, services to be held
Funeral services for Walter Gager will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 1 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with interment in Oak Lawn Cemetery, both at Cresco. Rev. Bruce Hobert will officiate. Lindstrom Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Walter, 84, died Saturday, July 28, 2001 at Samaritan Hospital in Macon, MO.
Walter Alvin Gager was born October 10, 1916 the son of Herbert Leslie and Margaret (Kaufman) Gager. He attended the Cresco public schools and was a veteran of WWII (European Theatre).
On June 20, 1946 he married Harriet L. Hovey at Cherry Grove, MN. Walter operated or was employed at various Cresco sendee stations for many years. He also was employed as a custodian at Crestwood High School for several years before retiring.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He lived in Cresco all of his life until May of 2001 when he moved to the Macon Health Care Center in Macon, MO near where his daughter Kathleen resides and where his granddaughters work.
Walter enjoyed reading, fishing, watching John Wayne movies, working in his yard, and going to Crestwood High School sports events.
He is survived by two daughters: Kathleen Hruska of Atlanta, MO and Marlys Dobry of Monmouth, IL; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother: Verne of Marshalltown and three sisters: Jennie Hagen of Des Moines, Ellen Stevens and Carol Casey both of Cresco.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife Harriet on November 12, 1987; one grandson; his parents; one brother: Donald; and four sisters: Edna Sears, Thelma Rotte. Evelyn Swim, and Marian, who died in infancy.
