Funeral services for Celia Frana were held at 10:30 a.m on Thursday, September 13 at the Assumption Worship Center in Cresco with interment in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, rural Elma. Rev. Clarence Frana officiated. Pallbearers were her grandchildren: Allen Hayek, Kenneth Ferrie, Patrick Sweeney Jr., Leroy Stortz, Bryan Frana, and Randy Mashek. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements. .
Celia, 91, died Monday, September 10, 2001 at the Oneota Riverview Care Facility in Decorah.
Celia Margaret Frana was born June 16, 1910 in Winneshiek County, near Spillville, the daughter of George W. and Mary (Kopet) Kuhn. She attended the rural school and stayed home to help with the family chores.
On April 24, 1928 she married George Joseph Frana in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. They made their home on a farm in the Lourdes area. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and belonged to its Altar and Rosary Society until she moved to Cresco in about 1991 and she joined the Assumption Worship Center.
Celia loved the outdoors and spent the days helping her husband with the farming. She had a garden which helped to feed the large family and crocheted many gifts foi them.
She is survived by her children: Leona Stortz of Canton, MN. Sylvia Hayek of Ft. Atkinson, Gladys Ferrie of Cresco, Laurence of Cresco, Eileen Sweeney of Elma and David Frana of Rochester, MN: 25 grandchildren; 41 greatgrandchildren; two step greatgrandchildren; one great-great grandson; and one brother: Peter of Ft Atkinson.
Celia was preceded in death by her husband George in 1983; a daughter: Marie Mashek; one grand daughter; her parents; one brother Hugo; and three sisters: Mary Jirak, Vera Evenson, and Margaret Panos.
