Mrs. Eiffler died Monday, November 19 at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, IA where she had resided since April 21, 1971.
Born Lenora Sanborn on July 31, 1929, she was the firstborn child of Winfield K. and Agnes (Cleveland) Sanborn. She was baptized on April 14, 1946 by the Rev. Lamont C. Smith of the Lime Springs Methodist Church. She married Melvin Eiffler on October 17, 1952 and became a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lime Springs. Lenora and Melvin became the parents of three children - Alice, Joyce and Gary. Due to deteriorating health, she spent most of her adult life as a resident of care centers, first at Howard County (Iowa) Care Facility, then the Birtwistle Nursing Home and finally the Evans Home. There she received tender loving care of the staff for 30 plus years. Lenora enjoyed doing embroidery work until her declining health took away the use of her hands. At Evans Home, she loved participating in the worship services and other activities planned by the staff. She spent many hours enjoying the birds in the aviary there.
Survivors include a daughter, Alice Mae Eiffler, a resident of the Evans Home; a son, Gary Lee Eiffler, a resident of the Clarion, Iowa, unit of North Central Human Services; two sisters, Marian (Lloyd) Peter of Lime Springs and Barbara (Charles) Mollert of St. Charles, MN, plus 12 nieces and nephews and their families.
Her husband preceded her in death on May 8, 1999 as well as a daughter, Joyce in Sept. 14, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her mother in 1950, her father in 1985 and her devoted stepmother Sylvia (Bloom) Sanborn in 1981.
