Mrs. Mary Arness, wife of Ben Arness, died at Lourdes, Dec. 21, leaving a husband and three children to mourn her death, the youngest only a few days old. The deceased was a daughter of Frank and Julia Guyette. With the family and friends in this sorrowful affliction the PLAIN DEALER can deeply and sincerely sympathise. Obituary later

December 21, 1897, at Lourdes, Iowa, Mrs. B. H. Arness, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Guyette, age 29 years.
Mrs. Arness was the third of a family of eleven children, all of whom were present at time of her death. She leaves a husband and three little ones. Even our seasons of rejoicing are sometimes of sorrow. So it was with her bereaved family, when after a two weeks’ illness the angel of death softly whispered—come. Though young and full of life, conscious of the great loss she wou’d{sic} be to her children (the eldest three years) she was resigned to the will of God.
Sorrow for her death will not be confined to her immediate family for she was well and favorably known in the locality, as the many friends who gathered to pay their last tribute would indicate.
The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Father Nelson of Lourdes.
