Funeral postponed until Friday, December 21 at 11:00 am John Wacha Jr. age 90, of Cresco, IA died Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Regional Health Services in Cresco. John J. Wacha Jr. was born April 17, 1922 in Howard Township of Howard County IA, the son of John and Mary (Roman) Wacha Sr. He attended Howard #7 grade school. On November 8, 1950 he married Margaret Berka at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, IA. In 1954 John founded Wacha Insurance Agency which his son, John Wacha III operates today. John was active in the business until he entered the Cresco Care Center. He also farmed in Howard County and was one of the first farmers in the area to own a combine. John was a life-long resident of Howard County and life-long member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, of which he was very active having serving on the parish council, it’s various committees and boards as well as the cemetery board. For many years he has been a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Over the years John was active in the community as a leader in the 4H, Boy Scouts, on the board of the Maple Leaf Creamery, Co-Chairman of the Lourdes Centennial Committee, sponsored softball and bowling teams was past president and currently honorary member of the Howard County Fair Board and past president of Bohemian Mutual Insurance. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs. John is survived by four children; John Wacha III of Lime Springs, Joe Wacha of Cresco, Judy (Donald) Bartels of Elma and Mary Wacha of Limes Springs; 4 grandchildren, Melissa (Aaron) Schatz and their children Nolan and Alanna, Michelle (Tyler) Schwarck and their daughter Kaylee, Malinda Bartels and Myranda Bartels. John is preceded in death by his wife Margaret on Dec 24, 1995; two sisters, Loretta (Adolph) Ludwig and Ione (Harlan) Benson.
