JANIS ELAINE KLINGLE, 80, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2012 after a valiant fight with cancer in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Janis was born on January 10, 1932, on her aunt’s farm near Cresco, Iowa, daughter of Arthur and Melinda DeGreve Peterson. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa) and taught in a one-room schoolhouse. Janis was a woman of many talents and passions. She served her community as Councilwoman and then Mayor of St. Leo, in her adopted state of Florida where she lived for 30 years. She was also a successful businesswoman, running an interior design and retail business in Tampa, as well as being the proprietor of Downey Jewelry and Gift in her native Cresco. Janis especially loved her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Dr. Francis Leroy Klingle; four sons, John of French Lick, IN, Robert (Bob) of Louisville, KY, James (Jim) of Punta Gorda, FL and Chowalit Tanomtin of Bangkok, Thailand; four daughters-in-law; Nancy, Jean, Joyce, and Jarinya and four grandchildren, Andrea of Portland, OR; D’Arcy of Washington, DC, John, and Kathryn of Louisville, KY and many nieces and nephews. Her sister, Marilyn Wildman of Cedar Falls, IA, and her brother Allan Peterson of Minneapolis, MN also survive her. A celebration of Janis’ life will be held at First Lutheran Church in Cresco, IA at 1 pm on Friday August 24th. Visitation will be Friday morning from 10 am until 12 noon at First Lutheran. Burial will take place at Oak lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that expressions of sympathy honor Janis’ lifelong love of teaching. Memorial gifts may be sent to St. Francis School, 233 West Broadway, Louisville, KY, 40202 for the Janis Klingle memorial. The family wishes to thank Cedar Valley Hospice for their loving care.
