John, “Chub” McAllister, 74, of Cresco, IA, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, IA due to complications of congestive heart failure. John was born on December 16, 1937, the son of John A. McAllister and Louise (Lickteig) McAllister. He was baptized and confirmed in the Assumption Church. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1956. He ran heavy equipment in the summer and drove semi’s in the winter. He started farming full time in 1958 and was named Outstanding Young Farmer in 1969. In 2005 he was one of eight men in the United States and Canada chosen by Caterpillar to help test the Cat M Series Prototype Grader. He enjoyed doing finish work until failing health made it impossible to continue the job that he loved. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marie; three sons, Patrick (Gail) of Hood River OR, Michael (Pamela ‘deceased’) of Cresco, IA, Jeff (Shelly) of Cresco, two daughters, Shari of Phoenix, AZ, and Kathy of Aurora, IL, seven grandchildren, Steve (Alyse) of Paton, IA, Jessica (Israel Balik), Nathan of Clear Lake, IA, Erin of Janesville, WI, Meghan, Kaitlin, and Austin McAllister of Cresco, two great-grandsons, Brock Balik and Sawyer McAllister, one brother, Donald (Muriely) of Richland Hills, TX He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Lloyd.
