Charlotte Olga Culbert age 92 of Cresco passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, Iowa. Charlotte was born on August 22, 1919 in rural Saude, Iowa to Henry Oliver and Clara (Vaala) Borlaug. She attended local schools and graduated from Cresco High School. The following two years she taught country school in New Oregon Township near Saude. On June 2, 1940 she was united in marriage to Leonard C. Culbert at the Saude Lutheran Church. Charlotte was a loving wife and mother, homemaker, active with her three children, director of the Peter Pan Daycare before her retirement. She enjoyed many actives and clubs including United Methodist Church, UMW, teaching Sunday school, Howard County Historical Society, 20th Century Club, the Cedar Falls Retired School Personal and visiting with her many friends. Charlotte lived her entire life in Howard County except for a few months after marriage. It was said that Charlotte and Leonard not only raised crops and livestock on their farm northwest of Cresco but lots of love. She had a hardy laugh, a quick smile and described by many as a very sweet lady. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Survivors include a daughter Jeannine Horton of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, two sons: Rodney and his wife Patricia of Warsaw, Minnesota and L. B. “Bud” and his wife Sherry of Granite Shoals, Texas. Also surviving are six grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard in 1997, a son-in-law David in 2012, a brother Norman Borlaug, and a sister Palma Behrens.
