Wernett, Dorothy (Wilbur) Malley 1921 - 2012

The Lord took Dorothy Wernett, 90, of Cresco, IA, by the hand and led her home as she rest peacefully with friends and family by her side on June 13, 2012 at the Patty Elwood Center in Cresco, IA. Dorothy was born on November 5, 1921 to Oscar and Genevieve Wilbur. She grew up and attended school in the Burr Oak area. She met and married Perry Mailey in 1939. To this union, two children were born, Ann Marie and Perry Paul, Jr. Following her husband Perry’s passing, Dorothy married Charles Wernett in 1944. To this union five children were born, David Charles, Sharon Kay, Cheryl Darlene, Duane Alfred, and Frank Larry. Dorothy was always a very religious woman, belonging to the Immanuel Lutheran Church since 1955, where she attended services regularly. She was an active member of the Women’s Committee, and Wednesday Church Fellowship. She loved having large family meals for Sunday dinner with lots of friends and family. She could always play a mean game of cards, and there were not many she didn’t know. She also belonged to a card club, loved watching wrestling with her son David, and going on Cheryl and Jerry's family vacations when she could. She loved spending the holidays together and especially her birthday parties, including her most recent 90th birthday. In later years, she attended Howard County home daycare several days a week, becoming a permanent resident in 2006. She was preceded in death by her parents, all but one of her siblings, two husbands, Perry Mailey and Charles Wernett, three sons, Perry Mailey, Jr., David Wernett, and Frank Wernett, and one daughter, Sharon Richardson. Those left to mourn her passing are her son, Duane Wernett of Rochester, MN, two daughters, Ann Deihl of Spring, TX, and Cheryl Gram of Newton, IA, one sister Shirley Solem of Minneapolis, MN, along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Cemetery:
Burial will be in Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak, IA.
