Mrs. Gordon Matson, a homemaker and retired school teacher, died February 27, 2012, of St. Paul, Minnesota, at New Harmony Care Center. The former Audell Betts was born August 29, 1918, in Cresco, Iowa, to Roy Henry Betts and Gevina Bjorgo Betts. She graduated from high school in Cresco, Iowa, and graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. She married Gordon Matson of Alta, Iowa, on July 5, 1942, at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco, Iowa. Mrs. Matson taught school for thirty-one years at Maynard, Bondurant and Cresco, Iowa; Casper, Wyoming and Harmony, Minnesota. Mrs. Matson was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran (Lydia Circle and ALCW of Granger, Minnesota); American Legion Auxiliary, Harmony, Minnesota. Audell lived her last twelve years in Briar Cliff Manor, an unassisted living apartment in Mahtomedi, Minnesota. On November of 2011, she moved to New Harmony Care Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. Audell is survived by her two sons Gordon (Cynthia) Matson of Oberlin, Kansas and Gerri (Susan) Matson of Jefferson City, Missouri, two daughters Patricia (Mark) Bigalk of White Bear Lake, Minnesota and LeAndra Matson of Cottage Grove, Oregon; grandchildren Buck (Nelda) Matson of Oklahoma, Andrew (Sandy) Matson of Arkansas, Tara Matson of Missouri, Lisa (Jay) Ernst of Missouri, Cody Matson of Missouri, Andrea (Jeremy) Johnson of Iowa, Devanie (Martin) Hoven of Minnesota, Jakonah Matson-Bell of Oregon and Mandara Matson-Bell of Utah; great grandchildren Macee Ernst of Missouri, Alisa Ernst of Missouri, Brylie Johnson of Iowa, Kaleb Johnson of Iowa and William Hoven of Minnesota; one brother Wayne (Carol) Betts of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister Verna Kruse of Tipton, Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gordon; sister Mavis Willson; infant sister Norma Cathline Betts; infant grandson Matthew LeRoy and brother-in-law Dr. Otto Kruse.

Cemetery:
Burial will take place in the St. Matthew’s Cemetery in Granger.
