Jane Miller, 84 of Cresco, IA, went home to be with her Savior while surrounded by her family on February 22, 2012. Maria Jane Irene Florence Appel was born on November 21, 1927 at the family home in Monona, IA, the third child of Will and Emma (Kuthe) Appel. Jane received her education at country schools at Kendallville and Riceville, High School in Ridgeway, and graduated in 1946 from Cresco High School. Following graduation, Jane worked in a factory and did laundry services in Peoria, IL, then moved back to Cresco and worked at Eaton’s Dairy. On March 21, 1951, Jane was united in marriage to Robert K. Miller at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. To this union two children were born, Wendie Ann and Dean Robert. Jane’s favorite pastimes in life were cooking for her family, raising a huge garden with her husband Bob, selling vegetables, sewing, and caring for her three grandchildren. Jane was a lifetime member of the 1st Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 37 years to the two and three year olds. She was also a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan. She and Bob baked many varieties of cookies at Christmas time and together with their grandchildren, delivered them to friends and shut-ins in the area. Jane also passed her love of cooking and gardening on to her three grandchildren who now do things the way Grandma Jane did it! Jane is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Bob, her daughter Wendie (Ken) Solomon of Cresco, and son Dean (Fran) Miller of Cresco, three grandchildren, Erin Solomon of Onalaska, WI, Jason (Ann) Miller of Cresco, and Stacy (James) Tumpach of Cottage Grove, WI, four great-grandchildren, Carson Miller, Elijah Tumpach, Isabelle Tumpach, and Carly Miller, and her beloved dog Maggie. Also surviving is her sister Arlene Rue of Ridgeway, a sister-in-law Agnes Anderson of Northwood, as well as nieces and nephews.
