Mr and Mrs. Van Slyke were called to Saratoga, by the death of Mrs. O’Brien, a niece of Mr. Van Slyke’s. She died Sept. 1st after a long and painful illness. The funeral services were held in the Union church Sept. 3rd, conducted by Rev. Pierce of Riceville.

Transcriber’s Note: Saratoga Cemetery records indicate this was Christina O’Brien, born July 22, 1849.
