Gerald Francis Drake, 74, died August 23, 2011, at the Howard Residential Care Facility in Cresco, IA. Jerry (as he was known) was born February 4th, 1937, to William McKinley Drake and Ida Amalie (Bigalk) Drake. Jerry grew up and resided for most of his life on the family farm near Kendallville. He continued to farm and reside there until he was finally forced to relocate a few years ago due to health issues. Jerry lived a simple farmer’s life, spending most of his time tending to his crops and livestock, and taking care of his tractors and other farm equipment. He also did a great deal of tinkering and fixing his autos and had a knack for keeping things running well beyond their typical usable life. Later in life, Jerry enjoyed listening to his police scanner, the leisure of watching television, and enjoying his lifelong vice – smokeless tobacco. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Lester, and his sister Margaret Flatland. He is survived by niece Denise (Flatland) Rohm of Coralville, IA, nephew Dean Flatland of Hampshire, IL, niece Dawn (Flatland) Mackenburg of Cresco, great nephews Zachary, Nicholas, and Alexander Rohm and great niece Kylie Rohm of Coralville, IA, great nieces Ashley, Amber, Jessica, Jennifer, Casey, and Cadence Flatland of Hampshire, IL, great nieces Kristen and Hailey Mackenburg and great nephew Hunter Mackenburg of Cresco, IA.
