Gertrude Natvig, 102, of Cresco, IA passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, IA

Gertrude Sylvia Natvig was born on August 16, 1907 on the home farm in rural Howard County, IA, near Saude, IA. She was the daughter of Ole and Annie (Borlaug) Natvig. She received her education in the country schools, and graduated from Cresco High School in 1925. Gerty earned a degree in education from the University of Iowa in 1929. After graduation, she taught school in Dows City, Iowa for two years. She returned home to care for her ageing parents. Upon her parents passing, she returned to teaching in the rural schools of Albion Township in Howard County. Following her teaching career, she was the librarian at the Cresco Public Library for 25 years. Upon retiring, she lived on her own in Cresco until November of 2003 at which time, she moved into the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco. She resided there until her death on July 21, 2010.

She is survived by her niece, Ann (Natvig) Dahlke, of Fairmont, MN, a nephew Godfrey Natvig of Cresco, IA, and numerous great, and great-great nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Art, Oscar, and John Natvig, and nephews, Odell and Kenneth Natvig.

Cemetery:
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation:
Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, IA from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday evening, and also one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Service:
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Saude Lutheran Church in Saude, IA.
