Opal Payton, 84, of Cresco, IA passed away on Friday, June Opal Payton, 84, of Cresco, Ia passed away on Friday, June 26, 2009 at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, IA.
Opal was born November 7, 1924 in Story City, Iowa the daughter of Ole P. and Nettie K. (Hanson) Frette. She graduated from the Radcliffe High School, Radcliffe, Iowa in 1942. She taught country school for 2 years after graduation from high school.
On April 10, 1945 Opal married Richard D. "Dick" Payton at the Rose Grove Lutheran Church, Williams, Iowa. They farmed in the Blairsburg and Ogden areas before moving to Northeast Iowa in March, 1956. Opal was a farm wife until she worked part time at the Farm Bureau Office, Cresco, Iowa and then as a full time secretary for Production Credit Association (PCA) for 15 years retiring in December, 1980. Opal was a 4-H leader; a member of the Stop & Go Club and 20th Century Club. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Richard D. "Dick" Payton; their children: Norma Jean (Eugene) Pecinovsky, Cambridge, Iowa and Janice (Dean) Hauge, Mason City, Iowa; grandchildren: Scott (Chelly) Pecinovsky; Shannon (Mandi) Pecinovsky; Kimberly (Darrin) White; and Kelly (Brandon) Lane; great-grandchildren: Ashlynn and Mallary Pecinovsky; Cadin, Danica and Lilli Pecinovsky; Caleb White and Carter Lane; sister; Helen Norem, Ames, Iowa; sister-in-law, Alveda Payton, Thornton, Iowa and brother-in-law, Robert (Carol) Payton, Liberty, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Ole P. and Nettie K. Frette; her in-laws, Daniel and Dorothy Payton; brother, Francis Frette; sister, Arlene West; half-brothers, Elmer Frette, Arthur Frette and Percy Frette; and half-sisters, Agnes Alvestad and Ethel Olson.
Cemetery:
Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Mason City, IA at 2:00 p.m. following services on Tuesday.Visitation:
Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, IA from 4-7 p.m. on Monday evening, and also one hour prior to services at the church.Service:
