SERVICES HELD FOR EVELYN VRBA,91
Graveside services were held at the New Oregon Cemetery on Wednesday, August 9 at 9:30 a.m. with Rev. David Fye officiating. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Evelyn, 91, died Saturday, August 5, 2000 at the Evans Memorial Home.
Evelyn Leone Vrba was born May 3, 1909 in Albert Lea, MN, the daughter of Hilbert and Cora Brant. She was raised in Albert Lea where she graduated from high school and was co-valedictorian. Following high school she attended Carlton College at Northfield, MN and Des Moines University. She loved to play piano and also played at the local theater at the silent movies.
On December 25, 1939 she married Edward H. Vrba in Albert Lea. Edward was elected senator for Howard and Winneshiek Counties and they moved to Des Moines for eight years and Evelyn was his secretary for this time. Evelyn and Edward moved back to Howard County and she spent the next 47 years living in the country several miles west of the New Oregon Cemetery. She worked for the Dodge dealership, the Times Plain Dealer, and Keune Brothers Construction for many years. After she retired from Keune Brothers she traveled extensively.
She enjoyed attending her grandson’s wrestling meets in high school and college and enjoyed watching and going to the St. Louis Cardinal baseball games.
She was a lifetime member of the First Congregational Church of Cresco, a member of the Friends in Council Clio Club and was active in woman’s fellowship at the Congregational Church.
She is survived by one grandson.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Edward H. Vrba; one son: Duane E.; one daughter: Diana Kay in infancy; her parents; and one brother: Virgil Brant.
