ELMA — Margaret Sweeney, 94, died Wednesday, Dec. 29 of natural causes at Colonial Manor Home in Elma.

Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Elma with grandsons, Lorn, Jeff, Mark and Steve Dykes, Mark McKeon, Kevin Wysocki, Pat Sweeney Jr., Virgil Dykes Jr. and Roger Dykes serving as casket bearers.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 3 at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma with Rev. Roger R. Rethamel presiding. Theresa Burke was the organist and accompanied the Resurrection Choir. Hymns included "Here I Am Lord", "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art . Her children placed the pall. Gift bearers were granddaughters, Connie Wysocki, Pauline Shatek, Susan Teggatz and Sheryn Drewelow. Mass servers were Jennifer and Bradley Shatek and Tayler Finn and Eucharistic Minister was Jack Shekleton. Her daughters were lectors.

Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 2 at Conway Funeral Home in Elma where there was a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service.

Margaret Bernice Boyle was born July 29, 1905 in the home of her parents near Lawler. She was the daughter of Patrick W. and Ann (Murray) Boyle. She attended Mount Carmel High School in Lawler and received a teaching degree from a college in Dubuque. She taught for several years in the Bremer and Howard County school systems.

Margaret was married June 25, 1935 to Herman James Sweeney at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Lawler. After their marriage they farmed the Sweeney family farm near Alta Vista. After the death of her husband, Margaret continued to live on the farm until moving to Colonial Manor in Elma on Jan. 3, 1992. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Rosary Society.

Survivors include one son, Patrick and his wife, Eileen, Elma; three daughters, Enid and her husband, Joe Wysocki and Yvonne and her husband, Jim McKeon, all of Dubuque and Connie and her husband, Virgil Dykes, Lake City, MN; 13 grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; one sister, Ann Klassen, Stacyville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Herman, who died Oct. 20, 1987; one daughter, Nancy (Margaret Ann) Sweeney, who died March 8, 1945; her parents; three brothers, Charles, William and James L. Boyle; and one sister, Irene Shekleton.
