from Elma library collection assembled by Marian (Marr) McGeePOLK CITY - Margaret V. Pecinovsky, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 30 of a heart ailment at the Kavanaugh House in Polk City.
A Memorial Service was held at 7 p.m., Jan. 27 at the Merle Hay Funeral Home, Des Moines. A memorial service will also be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 at Conway Funeral Home, Elma. The family will greet friends an hour before service time at the funeral home.
Mrs. Pecinovsky donated her body to the Osteopathic College of Medicine.
Margaret V. Pecinovsky was born Aug. 15, 1913 at the family farm near Elma, the daughter of John and Pauline (Vopava) Krall. She at¬tended the rural school and was a graduate of Elma High School. She received her teaching certificate from Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls and afterward taught in the Howard and Winneshiek County school systems. She then served eight years as a law secretary clerk.
Margaret was married to Alois H. "Peck" Pecinovsky on April 8, 1942. She traveled with her husband while he was in the service during World War II. She was a civilian employee with the armed forces while he served overseas. After the war, they returned to the Krall farm near Elma and farmed there until 1986 when they retired. Margaret lived in Elma and in later years spent much time in Polk City because of failing health. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, ZCBJ and the Polk City and Polk County Historical Society.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and Frank Clark, Polk City; a daughter-in- law, Snow Pecinovsky, Orange County, CA; four grandsons, Adam and Jeremy Clark, Des Moines and Jim and Larry Pecinovsky, Cypress, CA; and an aunt, Elsie Vopava Hinker, Los Alamitos, CA.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Alois "Peck" Pecinovsky on July 9, 1987; and a son, Wayne Pecinovsky.
Memorials may be made to the Elma American Legion Auxiliary, the Czech National Cemetery Association or to the Kavanaugh House.
