ELMA -- Josephine M. Offerman, 82, Elma, died Monday, March 27 at the Colonial Manor in Elma of natu¬ral causes.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 31 at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma with Rev. Roger R. Rethamel officiating. Organist was Theresa Burke, accompany¬ing cantor Keli Offerman and the Immaculate Conception Resurrection Choir. Hymn selections included "Here I Am, Lord", "Panus Angelicus", "On Eagle's Wings" and "Be Not Afraid. Lector was Betty, Boehmer and Eucharistic Minister was Judy Olejniczak. Gift bearers were Ryan Gillespie, Adam Gillespie, Colton Puente and Dylan Ptacek. Mass servers were Logan Ptacek, Tyler Puente and Josh Praska. Josephine’s children placed the pall.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Elma, with Nick Offerman, Keli Offerman, Gary Hughes, Loras Laures, Chuck Thoms and Joe Scally serving as casket bearers.

Visitation was from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, March 30 at Conway Funeral Home in Elma, with a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service.

Josephine Margaret Hughes was born July 30, 1917 in New Hampton, the daughter of Andrew and Nellie (Kirk) Hughes. She graduated from New Hampton High School in 1935. After her schooling, Josephine worked for the ASCS office in New Hampton. On Oct. 14, 1946, she was united in marriage with Cletus J. Offerman at the Church of the Nativity in Dubuque. After their marriage the couple resided in Dubuque for a short time before moving to Elma, when she began working at the Community Action office in New Hampton. She also worked for Comprehensive Systems in Elma. After her husband's death in 1985, Josephine moved to Charles City where she was a foster grandparent for the Charles City Schools for 10 years. She enjoyed reading, children, baking and gardening.

Surviving are three sons, Mike (Dana) Offerman, Madison, WI, Tom (Jane) Offerman, Charles City, Dick (Karen) Offerman, San Francisco, CA; three daughters, Ann (Louis) Puente, Fort Worth, TX, Jane Gillespie, Rochester, MN, Mary (Dennis) Ptacek, Elma; eight grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Cletus on Oct. 16, 1985; eight brothers and sisters.
