Services Saturday for W.J. O'Brien

Funeral services for William (Bill) O’Brien of Cresco were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 27, at St. Joseph’s Worship Center with interment in Calvary Cemetery, both at Cresco. The Rev. Michael L. Tauke officiated. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The grandchildren were pall bearers.

William, 90, died May 22, 2000 at the Regional Health Service Hospital due to complications following a stroke.

William J. O’Brien was born March 9, 1910 in Jamestown, ND the son of William J. and Evelyn (Hunt) O’Brien. In his early years his family moved to Iowa and settled on a farm near Elma. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. He received his education at the academy at Lourdes and graduated from the eighth grade,

On May 16, 1939 he married Edvina Lickteig at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Cresco.

Bill is survived by four children: Raymond of Waterloo, Robert Cedar Rapids, Wayne of West Union and Mary of Rockwood, Ontario, Canada; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson; one brother Edward of Elma; three sisters, Frances Schwickerath of Cedar Falls, Eleanor Kruger of Waterloo and Bernice Schmauss of Cresco.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edvina; one son, Ronald; one grandson; his parents; and three sisters, Marguerite Schoeberl, Myrtle Walter and Cecelia Richardson.
