NEW HAMPTON ~ Odell Jerome Natvig, 87, New Hampton and formerly of rural Lawler, died Monday, March 27 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday, March 30 at Saude Lutheran Church, rural Lawler, with Rev. Kent Dethlefsen officiating. Mary Beth Dethlefsen was organist and Colleen Busta was vocalist. Hymn selections were "Rock of Ages", "Abide With Me” and "Heaven Is My Home".

Interment was in the church cemetery with grandchildren, Kari Schmitz, Kirstin Natvig, Craig Natvig, Jon Natvig, Scott Natvig, Peter Natvig and Matt Natvig as pallbearers.

Visitation was 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 29 at Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton and an hour prior to services at the church.

Odell was born Aug. 8, 1912 in rural Howard County, the son of John and Clara (Treider) Natvig. He attended rural schools and graduated in 1930 from Cresco High School. On Oct. 6, 1936, he married Arlene Ellingson at the Saude Lutheran Church. The couple lived eight years near Chester and in 1945 they moved to their farm north of Lawler. Odell retired from farming in the 1970s and they remained on the farm until 1996 , when they moved to New Hampton. He was an active member of the Saude Lutheran Church, where he served on many committees and spent his free time working on projects. He enjoyed hunting duck, turkey and fox as well as playing croquet and horseshoes with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene; three sons, Dennis (Naomi) Natvig, Brainerd, MN, Allan (Debra) Natvig, Waterloo, Roland (Mary) Natvig, Princeton, MN; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Godfrey (Theodora) Natvig, Cresco; an aunt, Gertrude Natvig, Cresco; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a daughter-in-law, Susan Natvig.
