ELMA -- Helen Maseman, 91, Elma, died Wednesday, May 24 at Colonial Manor Home in Elma of natural causes.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Elma with Rev. Maurice Lind presiding. Konnie Schmidt will be organist and accompany soloist Jim Johnson. Hymn selections will include "Be Still My Soul", "In The Garden" and "Abide With Me".

Interment will be in Howard Cemetery at Elma with Emil Platte, Dick Wright, Max Schmidt Jr., Kenneth Schmidt, Jim Johnson and Melvin O'Donnell serving as casket bearers.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p,m. Friday, May 26 at Conway Funeral Home in Elma and also an hour before service time at the church.

Helen Bartels was born April 18, 1909 in Howard County, the daughter of Fred and Louise (Westendorf) Bartels. She attended rural schools near her home. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Maple Leaf on Sept. 6, 1928. Helen was united in marriage with Alvin Maseman by Rev. F. Saurbrey at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Maple Leaf. Following their marriage the couple farmed east of Alta Vista until 1943 when they moved to a farm north of Alta Vista, where they resided until her husband's death. Helen worked as a seamstress for many years. In March

1963, she moved to Elma where she resided until her death. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid.

Surviving are three daughters, Verna Harms, Denver, Vera Gebel, New Hampton, Verla Alexander, Roseberg, OR; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Bartels, Riceville.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Alvin on Jan. 8, 1963; four sisters, Rose Brummond, Ester Groth, Mabel Mixdorf, Ellen Mixdorf; three brothers, Victor, Herbert and Leonard Bartels.
