Funeral services for Irene Marshall of Cedar Falls were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 24 at St. Joseph’s Worship Center in Cresco. The Rev. Michael L. Tauke officiated. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Pall bearers were grandsons: Ben and Zachary Bailey, Scott Beaton, Derek and Jason Jensen, Chris Langan, and Eric Marshall. Honorary bearers were grandchildren: Brad and Josh Marshall, Terri Benson, Tammy Ewing, and Wendy Rejman. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Irene, 82, died Thursday, April 20, 2000 at her home after suffering a stroke.
Eleanora Irene Marshall was born August 29, 1917 in Howard County, near Cresco, the daughter of John and Eleanor (Hauber) Barthelme. She attended St. Joseph’s School and Cresco High School.
On November 23, 1940 she married Erwin Marshall at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cresco. She owned and operated the Cresco Dairy Queen until her retirement in 1974.
Irene liked to bake, garden, can pickles, and quilt. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Rosary Society.
Irene is survived by her husband Erwin; five daughters: Janet Langan, Jean Beaton both of Waterloo, Linda Jensen of St. Charles, MO, . Marilyn Bailey of Marion, Sharon Storke of Wisconsin Rapids, WI two sons: David of Olympia, WA, and John of Topeka, KS; 16 grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren; and one sister: Geraldine Fredrickson of Bellview, WA.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Jerome in infancy and Gerald Barthelme; and two sisters: Viola Ferrie and Helen Hove.
