Funeral services for Leonard F. Kovarik were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes with the Rev. Roger R. Rethamel officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Leonard, 81, died Friday, March 31, 2000 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah.
Leonard F. Kovarik was born October 4, 1918 near Lourdes in Howard County, the son of William C. and Josephine (Truka) Kovarik. He attended the Paris #9 school and returned home to help on the farm.
On June 14, 1955 he married Adeline Barta at the Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco. They moved onto the farm north of Lourdes. April 1, 1978 the farm Leonard was born and raised on was sold and he and his family moved to Cresco.
After moving to Cresco, Leonard worked as a handyman, mowing lawns in the summer and blowing snow in the winter.
On March 8, 1990 Leonard fractured his hip. His health continued to decline and he was cared for by his wife and daughter in his home until he entered Colonial Manor of Elma March 22, 2000.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Adeline; and one daughter, Diane Kovarik.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
