John W. Kane, 99, of Elma, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000 at the Colonial Manor in Elma of natural causes.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 12, at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma with Rev. Roger R. Rethamel officiating. Burial was in the Calvary Cemtery, also in Elma, with Conway Funeral Home in Elma in charge of arrangements.

John W. Kane was born June 26, 1901, at Elma, the son of Mike and Elizabeth (O’Meara) Kane. He attended Immaculate Conception School in Elma. In 1923 he began working with a bridge construction crew on the Chicago Great Western Railroad. He retired in 1962 from the railroad at age 60. While working on the railroad he resided in Elma. After his retirement he lived in Rochester before moving to the Colonial Manor in Elma in 1991.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Ed, Francis, Harry, Jim and George; and two sisters, Florence Casey and Myrtle Galligan.
