Services held for Rev. B. Hinrichs, 63
Rev. Bertrand E. Hinrichs, age 63, died Tuesday evening, March 7, 2000 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.

He was born July 11, 1936 on a farm near Victor, Iowa to Christian Franz and Eliese “Lizzie” Sophia (Wacker) Hinrichs and graduated from the Victor High School in 1954. From June of 1954 to June of 1958 he served his nation in the U.S. Air Force and was discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. On July 15, 1956 he married Janet E. Brockschink at St. John Lutheran Church near Victor.

In September 1958, Bertrand entered Concordia Seminary, Springfield, Ill., graduating on May 30, 1964. During his ministry he served as pastor of congregations in Irving, Tex., Riceville, Iowa, Osage, Iowa, Elma, Iowa and Shellsburg, Iowa. He also served on various boards of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.

Pastor Hinrichs enjoyed classical music and while living in Riceville he served on the Public Library Board, as Scoutmaster of Troop 31, and on the Ministerial Alliance.

He is survived by his wife, Janet of Vinton; his children, Randall D. Hinrichs of Nashua, N.H., Paula Hinrichs Hansen and husband, John Hansen of Cary, N.C., and Steven C. Hinrichs and wife, Kelly of Altoona, Iowa; grandchildren, Mackenzie and Hilary Hinrichs and Molly and Bryan Hansen; brothers, Gary Hinrichs of Marengo, and Edmund Hinrichs of Fairmont, Minn.; his sister, Berniece Maas of Amana; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Reinhold and Christian Hinrichs, and his sister, Elizabeth Koehn.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 11, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids with Rev. Paul Scheidt officiating. Committal services were at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.

A memorial fund has been established. Phillips Funeral Home of Vinton handled arrangements.
