Funeral services for Clara Hook were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 13 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Bruce Hobert officiated. Interment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Pall bearers were: Roger Doubek, Raymond Vobr, Robert Vobr, Elvin Vobr, Eugene Albers, Johnie Vobr. Honorary pall bearers were: Marvel Grabau, Naomi Clark, Hedwig and Milton Kach, Helen Henkes, Ruby Ott, Mary and Art Nielsen and Florence and Clifford Tapp. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Clara, 97, died Monday, January 10, 2000 at the Evans Memorial Home following a short illness.

Clara Marie Hook was born March 4, 1902 in Howard County, the daughter of Chris and Anna (Mackenburg) Ewert. She went to country schools until she was nine years old and then moved to Cresco. She graduated from Cresco High School in 1921.

On June 21, 1922 she married Glen Hook. They farmed by Davis Corners for five years and then moved east of Cresco. Clara did the bookkeeping for her husband’s milk route for 14 years.

Clara played the piano for Sunday School and was a Sunday School teacher and held all the offices of the ladies aide. She belonged to the Birthday Club and the Garden Club in which she held many offices. She and Glen retired and moved to Cresco from their farm.

Clara enjoyed working with her flowers. She went to the Evans Memorial Home in 1994 when she broke her hip, and spent her remaining years there.

Survivors include one daughter Irene Vobr of Cresco.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband Glen on October 1, 1991; her parents; an infant brother, John; and one sister: Mabel Zeller.
