Services held for Marcella Hamann

Funeral services for Marcella Hamann of Chester were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 6 at the Chester United Methodist Church. The Rev. Robert Holdorf officiated. Interment was in the Chester Hill Cemetery at Chester. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Marcella, 86, died Sunday, January 2, 2000 at the St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea, MN.

Marcella was born July 16, 1913 in Spring Valley, MN, the daughter of John and Laura Milbrath. In 1920 her family moved to the Chester community and she attended country school through the eighth grade. She graduated from Chester Public School in 1932.

On June 10, 1936 she married Herbert Hamann. They lived on the Hamann farm until 1940 when they moved to a farm about one mile away. They farmed until 1979 then moved to LeRoy, MN.
Marcella joined the Chester United Methodist Church in 1933 and was an active member. She was a Sunday School teacher, choir member, MYF leadership and church custodian.

Her hobbies were gardening, playing cards, and putting together scrapbooks. As an amateur historian, she compiled a history of the Chester United Methodist Church and in 1958 wrote the history of the town of Chester.

Survivors include one daughter Ann of Fairfax, VA; and one sister: Joan Schonsby of Austin, MN.

Marcella was preceded in death by her husband Herbert in 1987; her parents; five sisters, and a step-brother.
