Funeral services for Irene Doupnik of Grinnell were held at 1:30 p.m, Monday, November 20 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Del Dawes, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Irene, 76, died Tuesday, November 14, 2000 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell of complications relating to Alzheimer’s Disease.

Irene L. Doupnik was born April 1, 1924 in Thurston, NE, the daughter of Frank and Blanche (Vraspir) Fillipi. She was raised in Thurston and graduated from Thurston High School.

On December 1, 1946 she married John F. Doupnik in Omaha, NE. The couple fanned near Thurston until 1960, when they moved to a farm near LeMars. From 1968 to 1996, they farmed near Lime Springs and she moved to Grinnell in January of 1996.

Survivors include one daughter Diane Hawkins of Grinnell; two sons: Dennis of Roanoke, VA and Larry of Menomonie, WI; five grandchildren; two brothers: Jerry and Lumer both of Thurston, NE; and two sisters: Elsie Hearns of Mokena, IL and Ann Armitage of Canby.MN.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother: Edward; and three sisters: Josephine Niemann, Libby Grothe, and Martha Fillipi.
