Martin O. Bennett was born on a farm near Allison, Iowa, on Dec. 29, 1915, the son of Frank and Hattie (Womack) Bennett. He received his education in the Allison school district. His family lived in the Elma and Lime Springs area before later moving to Missouri. Martin returned to Iowa and began working for area farmers.

He married Lillian Eide on July 3, 1937 in Hastings, Minn. The couple spent most of their married lives farming in the Riceville-LeRoy area. They moved to Forest City in 1969 where Martin began working for Winnebago Industries.

After retiring in 1980, he began doing yard and garden work for people in Forest City. Martin loved being outdoors and thrived on the physical effort. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He moved to the Hampton Health Care Center in October of 1996. He died there January 15, 2000, at the age of 84 years.

He is survived by two sons and their spouses: Gary and Diane of Latimer, Iowa and Robert and Claudine of Poulsbo, Wash.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Delbert Bennett of Willow Springs, Missouri, and a special friend, Evelyn Waggener of Forest City. Martin was preceded in death by his wife Lillian, his parents, four brothers and four sisters.
